5 for Android starts rolling out

Gmail 4.5 for Android starts rolling out

Google has released the v4.5 update for the Gmail app for Android, which brings with it some UI changes, some of which are in tune with the recent changes seen on Gmail website.

The first thing you’ll notice is that Google has done away with the bottom bar that hosted buttons for new mail, search, labels, refresh and menu. Three of those have now been moved to the action bar on top and refresh has been included in the UI in the form of pull to refresh. The options in the drop down menu on top to move between your accounts, folders and labels has now been moved into a drawer on the left.

You will also notice that Gmail now shows contact images for your mails. If a mail has multiple contacts, it shows them in a grid similar to the Hangouts app. If there is no contact image, it just shows the first letter of the sender in a colored background, which does look a bit silly. You can disable sender images for the mails if you wish from the settings.

v4.5 also includes the four new inbox options. You can have your mail sorted by Primary, Social, Promotions and Updates as you can on Gmail web, which makes it easy to keep track of your mail.

Gmail 4.5 is now rolling out slowly to Android users worldwide. You can wait for it to be made available in your regions or you can download and install the APK from the link below.

Google did collect passwords with their Street View cars after all

Google did collect passwords with their Street View cars after all

A while ago Google’s Street View cars were caught red-handed, collecting data from unprotected Wi-Fi networks. The company then declared that it had no actual intention of gathering the data and hasn’t used it in anyway whatsoever so I thought things might just end there. However, as the investigation continues things start to look less and less harmless and there might be a storm brewing over Mountain View.

Apparently the Wi-Fi data “accidentally” collected by the Google cars contained serious stuff such as email access passwords and extracts of the content of email messages. In addition quite a lot of people (including a number of lawyers) claimed that Google knew exactly what their cars were doing and this raises plenty of questions about what they did with the collected information.

Not that the whole story about a piece of code left there by accident seemed all that believable in the first place, but the fact that there is private data involved makes matters way more delicate. Frankly, I cannot see Google coming out clean of all this.

LG announces super-hot X-Note Z330 Ultrabook

LG announces super-hot X-Note Z330 Ultrabook, prices start at $1500

LG just introduced a new member to its lineup of portable computers. The LG X-Note Z330 is a 1.21kg ultrabook with a 13.3″ screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Just 14.7mm thick and with an extremely cool design, the Z330 is certainly among the hottest looking laptops to date.

The LG X-Note Z330 comes with either Core i7 2637M or Core i5 2467M CPU, 4GB or RAM and 120GB or 300GB SSD, which allow it to make a cold boot in the amazing 9.9 seconds. As per the ultrabook tradition, there’s no discrete GPU here, so the Intel HD 3000, built into the CPU, will have to do.

What bother us here though is the pricing, which starts at KRW1.7 million Korean wons. That’s about $1,500 or just over 1,100, which is quite expensive even considering the looks of the device. And if you want to get the top spec’d version, the price is KRW2.6 million ($2,300/1700).

At least, the Z330 is pretty well prepared connectivity-wise. You are getting HDMI, Bluetooth 3.0, USB 3.0 Intel WiDi and Wi-Fi b/g/n.

Are you getting one? Let us know in the comments section below.

Dead Trigger is another epic shooter coming our way from Madfinger Games

Dead Trigger is another epic shooter coming our way from Madfinger Games

For those of you who are already too good at playing Shadowgun from Madfinger Games, we have some good news. There is another epic first person shooter coming our way from the developed, carrying the title Dead Trigger.

As the game’s title mildly suggests, there are zombies involved in the action – lots of them to be precise, as well as plenty of weapons at your disposal to face them.

The plot of the game is as simple and familiar as it gets – society has collapsed due to an unknown infection, so you have no other choice but to shoot your way out of the thick. Here goes the official teaser of the game. Be sure to note how straightforward it is.

Dead Trigger will hit both Android and iOS at the end of this month. The Android version will support external controllers as well, which means that you can turn your slate into a gaming console quite successfully.

Furthermore, the Android version of the game will have an NVIDIA Tegra 3 devices’ exclusive flavor, to go with the one available for everyone else. Naturally, the folks from NVIDIA have released some gameplay footage, which shows that their own version of the game offers superior graphics. Here it is.
